Monthly Archives: December 2015
So it’s Decemeber 19, 2015, and we’re exactly 12 days away from 2016. As I lay hear listening to the tranquil sounds of Spazzy Rocket, I can’t help to but to contemplate and feel extremely blessed and grateful for the amazing year I’ve had. Unlike many people I know, 2015 has truly been a grand year for me. I launched this fabulous website, I’m officially a SAG actress, and most importantly my self-discovery was at an all time high this year.
I have to admit I use to be one of those people that spoke without listening, and was so caught up in the idea of people understanding me that I never took others opinions into consideration. However, at the beginning of this year, I made a promise to myself that I would be a more open-minded person. And guess what…I kept that promise to myself. I let go of all the things I feel had been encoded into my brain (well except for my core morals and beliefs), and attempted to relearn everything I know about life. No seriously. I began to actually listen to others thoughts, and seriously hear and try to understand where they were coming from. I began watching philosophy documentaries to grasp an idea of how others viewed the world. I decided I wasn’t going to dwell on all of the bullshxt life can throw my way, and instead re-shift my focus towards all the beauty that is in this world. I even decided to give the idea of dating a real try (but the verdict on that is still being deliberated LOL.)
I must say through this journey I awakened a side of myself I didn’t even know ever existed. It’s almost as if I let my inner-child be free. Even little things about life and the universe just began to click. The most complex of ideas just seem to make sense now. I can honestly say I’m the happiest I have ever been in life. I feel so spiritually free and enlightened.
Now I’m sure you all are saying to yourselves, her life can’t be all sugarplums and fairy tales. And you know what you’re absolutely right. Life is not perfect, and it never will be. You are still going to have your bad days, where you feel like the cosmic demons are out to get you. However, I swear to you the moment you grasp the concept that even though life can be completely chaotic it can still be so simply beautiful, life becomes…magical.
From thought-provoking lyrics to social-media fueled rap “beefs” to hilarious memes, 2015 was an eventful year for the world music. But even with all the chaos this year, some artists still remembered what was important. It seemed like releasing solid bodies of works became significant again this year. If you’re an avid reader of this site then you are well aware of the fact that music is a focal point, so I felt it was only right to compose a list of some of my favorite CDs/EPs of the year. Be sure to check them out below!
1. “To Pimp A Butterfuly” x Kendrick Lamar
When I first heard this album, I remember saying to myself this is what music was missing. It’s what I call true hip-hop. Every song was thought-provoking and spoke on the emotions several Black people are experiencing across the world. The story telling alone was enough to make this album impeccable, but the 70s “soul vibe” took this body of work to another level. It’s no wonder this album received a Grammy nomination for “album of the year.”
2. “Cheers To The Fall” x Andra Day
Oh how I love Ms. Day! Her music is so soulful, and ground-breaking. I discovered her album while relentless searching the new releases section on Google Music. Her lead single “Forever Mine,” will quickly make her one of your new favorite artist. Day’s album tells the story of what a beautiful disaster love can be.
3. “Dark Sky Paradise” x Big Sean
When this album debuted I wasn’t shocked it quickly shot up to the top of the charts, with “IDFWU,” and “Blessings” being the two lead singles. This album was throughly a wonderful body of work. I love how it showcased the afterthought of what fame is like.
4. “Beauty Behind The Madness” x The Weeknd
Although this was not The Weeknd’s first album, it was his first mainstream effort. As fans we’ve watched several artist lose their “edge” once they become a more mainstream artist, but with The Weeknd this was just not the case. The album had the same amount of darkeness and grunge that his listeners were use to, and didn’t disappoint at all.
5. “Woman” x Jill Scott
If you are a Jill Scott fan it should be no surprise to you that her album landed her on this list. Woman is a boldly told story about the evolution of Scott’s womanhood. This album is soulful, empowering, and intimate.
6. “Amethyst” x Tinashe
Tinashe is one of my fave artist, and her bodies of works never seem to disappoint me. She’s one of those artist that you can just put on and vibe all the way out to. This seven-track ep was effortlessly sexy, and told the story of what it’s like to be a millennial in the crazy world of dating.
7. “TrapSoul” x Bryson Tiller
I featured Tiller at the beginning of this year as one of my “5 Artist To Watch,” and boy was I right. Once Tiller’s debut album “TrapSoul” was released he seemed to just blow up. Everyone, everywhere was listening to his cd. He is such an authentic artist you can’t help but relate to his songs.
8. “Intermission I & II” x Trey Songz
I’ve always been a huge fan of Trey Songz’s music. He’s one of the very few r&b artist that actually stays true to rhythm and blues. Intermission gave Songz’s fans a glimpse into what being in love is like when you’re a star, but was still relatable enough that everyone could see their lives reflected in one of the songs.
9. “Urban Flora” x Alina Baraz & Galimatias
If you’re a fan of my website, then you know that I love the sexy sounds of this duo. This eight-track ep was the epitome of “sensual and sultry.” Alina Baraz & Galimatias music is pure bliss, and will make you feel like you’ve floated away and temporary left earth.
10. “Purpose” x Justin Bieber
I’ve always been a fan of Bieber’s music, but I feel with this album we got a chance to see a different side of the artist. This album is raw, honest, and real. It sheds away any doubt that Bieber is a “real” musician.
11. “You Should Be Here” x Kehlani
Let me start off by saying I LOVE Kehlani. She’s such an authentic musician. What I love most about her music is her straight-forward and raw lyrics. This album tells the story of a young girl trying to make it in the world. It’s relatable, passionate, and breathes some new life into the world of r&b.
12. “Rodeo” x Travis Scott
A buzz surrounding Travis Scott has slowly but surely been happening for a little while now. The same duality he possesses as a musician (Scott is a mega-producer as well as an artist) is very much present on his album, which tells the story of rap industry politics and tales of “cool, rich hipster kids.”
13. “Reality Show” x Jazmine Sullivan
I have always been a fan of Jazmine Sullivan’s tales of love gone wrong, and with this album my fandom grew even stronger. With this album, Sullivan seemed to breathe new life into the age-old story line of life, and it’s ups and downs.
14. “Emotionally Unavailable” x Justine Skye
I’m a huge fan of Justin Skye’s music. Her sound gives you an “old-school” r&b feel, all while discussing topics that millenials can relate to. Emotionally Unavailable takes you on a young girl’s journey of “finding herself.”
15. “DS2” x Future
2015 seemed to be the year of Future. Everywhere I went I seemed to hear someone making some type of reference to his lyrics (just check social media). This album is the epitome of trap music, and tells the story of a person’s transition from “hood rich,” to well “real-life rich.” It’s the perfect turn-up album.
Hope you all enjoyed the list! What was your favorite album of 2015?!

One thing I’m obsessed with is fab makeup, and as a true makeup lover I know the key to having a flawlessly “beat face,” is having clear and even-toned skin. At a very early age my mom taught me the importance of having an efficient skincare routine. I’ve been experimenting with beauty products since I was about 13 years old or so, and over the years I’ve learned two very important things about the art of caring for your skin. 1. The best way to determine what skincare products work best for you, is first knowing what type of skin you have. (Click here to read my post about determining what type of skin you have.) And 2. Don’t be afraid to try different products. I constantly switched up my skincare routine until I figured out what combination of products worked best for me. Below I’ve decided to list 5 of my fave skincare products that I couldn’t possibly live without. Enjoy!
1. Mary Kay Botanical Effects Mask, $14
I first tried this product when I became a Mary Kay consultant, and I instantly fell in love with it. It’s truly magical. It tones, tightens, and hydrates your skin. I use this mask about once a week, and when I don’t I can definitely see the difference in my skin.
2. Freeman’s Charcoal and Brown Sugar Scrub, $4
I randomly bought this product one day while I was browsing the beauty section at Wal-Mart, and I must admit I’m so glad I did! This scrub is an amazing exfoliant. It gently removes dead skin cells, softens rough areas, and instantly lightens up dark spots. I use this scrub about 2-3 times a week.
3. Karuna Clarifying Face Sheets, $28 4-pk or $8 1-pk
I discovered these facial sheet masks one day browsing around an Ulta Beauty Store. After doing some quick online research, I decided to buy one. These sheet masks are incredibly beneficial for makeup junkies like myself. Each sheet comes in an individually wrapped packet containing several types of hydrating and purifying ingredients. I use these about twice a month to restore all of the nutrients and natural oils that have been removed from daily makeup wear.
4. Mary Kay TimeWise Night Solution, $32
Once again, this was one of the products I discovered when I first became a Mary Kay consultant. After using this product for about 3 nights I began to truly see a difference in not just the appearance of my skin, but also the feel as well. It is extremely hydrating, and you wake up the next morning with luxurious “just left the spa” skin. I use this product nightly.
5. Neutrogena On-Spot Acne Treatment, $7
I’ve been using Neutrogena products since I’ve been 13 years old, and one thing I will always be certain of is if it has a Neutrogena seal then is probably an awesome product. This acne cream works better than any other one I’ve ever tried (and I’ve tried SEVERAL). It dries out/clears up acne extremely fast, and it doesn’t leave your skin feeling dry or flaky.
What are your fave skincare go-tos?! I would love to hear about them in the comments!
